Improvements in environmental health policies should be based on scientific evidence. And yet, translating scientific findings into the language of policy-makers is not a trivial undertaking. Among the tools available to help bridge between science and policy are risk assessment and health impact assessment. Limited expertise in these fields in Israel impairs the ability to promote evidence-based environmental health policies.
The Bridging Initiative will improve risk assessment and health impact assessment capabilities by investing in a number of parallel efforts. Support will be provided for collaboration with international experts in the field. Post-graduates will be sent for advanced training overseas. In addition, in order to meet the current environmental health policy needs for risk assessment and health impact assessment, short-term projects will be initiated.
